"Altered", a painted exploration of the tattooed nude, explores the quest for individuality using skin as the tool. The artist M Vlasic takes her fascination with tattoos to the next level by questioning the stories behind the ink. She asks the ultimate tattoo question, “Why”? What stories and events in a life hold such importance to merit a permanent place on the body? Does a person feel the tattoos aid in telling their story to the world? Do they feel enhanced, more beautiful, more self-realized? In this series she is laying bare the subject, opening up their tattoo stories for the viewer to read.
